The Gold Chip bevel edged chisels with Rosewood handles, were 3 times the price of their plastic handled cousins and twice the price of the Ash handled chisels.
Watch the video and see just how long it took me to get this one chisel back into great condition https://youtu.be/-D0QX73Pf5g
And I can honestly say they nailed it.
I've got the 6 set of these (I bought new in '87) and they hold their edge for ages. Great chisels if you can get them.
However, in the original box too... that's a huge bonus. Value now.. 🤔
Well.
After using new Narex, Ashley Iles, Lie Nielsen.. I'd price this set of 5 (in good condition) at £200.
Theres a lot to do to get them into perfect condition. And I've made a start.
New video will show just how to get the back flat again, and the edge square.
In perfect, mirror backed, 25° re-established. 30° honed.
Ferrule polished up and correct. Then with the Rosewood bought back to that satin smooth finish.
Perfect.. And the Price after restoration and tuning..
£450-500.
Note; Record also produced a Boxwood handled Gold Chip range too. Again in boxes. However, that rivalled the Sorby Boxwood handled chisels. The Rosewood was seen as the higher end, and at the time, the best you could buy.
