Yes, you can straighten twisted and warped Wood.

Making the rails for my new bench (which will look a bit like the one in the pic)

And getting twist out of my donor parts. By adding laminated timber while glueing up in a clamped set-up.

Threaded rod time. How to make a torsion beam bench rail system work.

I've used this method before and I was told that you can get up to a ton of pressure on these joints 🤔

Part 4. Where the ideas start to become a drawing and the first joint done.

There's a lot of woodworking going on in this video. Working a few things out to transform the old bench into a chunky solid bench that is inspired by the look of the Sjöbergs Elite 2000.

Sjöbergs From Scrap Part 3

To allow me to build this bench without too much moving around. I need a space for it.

Somewhere it can sit that's not in the way. 

And some of the workshop has other 'stuff' in the way, like the old headboards. #upcycling the Oak headboards is a future project, but they're in the way and I need the space. 

So, the Oak headboards get cut down. Then machined to a thickness that could be useful for drawers and door fronts on the bench. 

Then I've got some unfinished jobs in front of the machines I need to use. So they needed completing this week.

Sjöbergs From Scrap bench Part 2

Planning time. Vice, hold fasts, bench height,  and using 'pre-loved' parts.

A good understanding of what you want on bench is needed at this point, and where? The most important part. How will it all fit into the design?

And then.. I found the vice out that will be fitted to the Sjöbergs From Scrap Bench. With it being second hand and a bit untidy. I set about trying to remove the vice checks (made from Beech) an alternative way to remove them using an Axe and topping up the firewood collection at the same time.

Sjöbergs From Scrap bench

It's time. I need another bench in the workshop and I've got everything I need to make this work.

Over the next few weeks I'll be building a superb Cabinet Makers Bench.

A bench that will hold its own in a wonderful workshop and learning environment.

This video takes us through the start of this journey and I give the reasons to make a bench this way.

Oak & Beech boards

Well, the last projects. Will I get the last present finished..?

And that piece of Oak I mentioned in the video was a loose leaf off an Art Deco dining table (there were two loose and two fixed) . Gifted to me to cut up and put the Wood to good use.

The table was 3" lower than normal and the owner had tried to sell it, with no luck selling she gave it to me. I found the frame of the table was mahogany with thick cut veneers covering the long timbers.

I went through every leaf and found a very wide straight, quarter sawn piece that took the table back over 200 years. With it being Art Deco design that added another 110 years or so. And I followed the curves of the annual rings to plot the pith..

Planted around 1660.
