Can we fix a BENT Plane? A bent Rebate plane get the full treatment

Hi, welcome back.

This time, we have a bent Carriage Makers Plane and it's a real project.

A carefully worded (so it can't be returned) Ebay item was bought and it has to be fixed.

Also known as a Carriage Makers plane, Coach Makers plane, Bench Rebate & Jack Rabbet (in the US).

These smaller planes are great to use as a general bench rebating plane and this one now will have to be restored.. Maybe slightly modified too. But we will see about that later, after the most important part.

Can we bend this plane back into the (somewhere near) correct position.

Well you can watch how we sort this plane out. Robert is a great engineer who I chat to quite often. He thinks we should be able to heat it up and straighten it.

You can see how we get on here. It's not a short video so grab a cuppa and enjoy the  many years of experience that goes into correcting the plane.

Have your say in the comments below the video. How do you think we did?

Thanks for watching

Making a three legged stool. (How to make a three legged table) #woodworking

I needed somewhere for my cup.. Then this happened. Some nearly 7" square blocks of Beech were given to me. Then some Ash for legs..
Before you know it I'm making a stool. Or is it a table?

Briquettes made by hand. #woodworking Responsibly by making fuel from our waste. #briquettes

The Briquettes making process. Does this mean that the Press can go?
Making these briquettes in seconds using my hands rather than a press. Speed is good but also the size. These will dry out quicker and be ready for use much quicker than the pressed briquettes.

A viable alternative to making with my press? or made for convenience? Mix it up a little.

Woodworking responsibly. Clearing up after ourselves and being responsible for our waste. My waste makes my home warm.

Crocodile for SALE.. Pantomime Croc

Having made the Tick-tock Croc back in November 2021 and being used twice by All and Sundry in Bromsgrove for their Peter Pan pantomimes. It's now time to recoup some of the time/hours and let someone else own it.

It would make a great investment to use or hire out. I made the Croc in a few weeks and so much went into the creation.

Email me @ Jam.hub73@gmail.com if you are interested.

This video watch now contains footage of me inside the Crocodile on stage, the build and how it all works.

I hope you enjoy

All the best

A 3mm Japanese chisel. Needed for a project, so I bought one online. I checked what I needed and Tyzac in London had just the right one.

'Click'.. it's paid for and delivered 36 hours later. Only problem is I'm not happy that it's laminated well. Take a look at the video. here

This is what it looked like

Would you keep it of send it back?

What do you think?

Let me know in the comments on the video.

Stanley no7 jointer plane. Or Preston no17 - (compare Jointer planes)

The CLASSIC Stanley no7 jointer plane plus a very RARE Preston no17 jointer plane. I don't need three big planes.

One or two have to go

One of my students has asked if i have a no7 jointer plane For SALE. But which one do I sell?

The three are.

Stanley type 8 (1880s-1902)

Stanley type 15 (1931-32) and a Preston type 2. (1931-33)

Which plane would you keep and which would you sell?

Watch my thoughts on these three and see if you can tell which one stays.

Briquette making process - Sharing (method and tips) with @AbellTo #woodwork #briquettes

This was a briquettes collaboration with Darren of @AbellTo on YouTube.

We did an unboxing of Darren's bench mounted Multimate briquette Press and looked at how the first briquettes can be made. New wood shavings just doesn't work for me anymore. Chainsaw chippings, planer chipping and saw dust can be used but the bigger they are, they do hinder the compact nature of a briquette.

Then onto how I create my briquettes from my workshop waste that I leave for weeks to decompose, like Peat or compost. Then make the briquettes and allow to dry out. After 3 weeks drying, I then take home and burn on my Log burner. With great results. The heat is up  to 30% hotter and last over two hours easily.

One bag of shavings from my dust collection bag makes approximately 120 blocks. I also throw in tea bags, used coffee grinds (anywhere from 0 to 80% used Coffee grounds)
