Leaf mould biofuel briquettes - Make & burn a selection in one night.

Leaf waste. That organic matter sitting on the side of the road, on pavements or Tarmac. Not on grass or soil, where the decomposing leaves can improve the soil and benefit the trees and flowers.

It's the waste that will be collected up by a four wheeled brushing and sucking machine, and no doubt dumped in a hole in the ground somewhere with household waste. This is the waste I think we can reuse and create a fuel for my Log burner.

So, would it make a simple briquette that burns well, creating energy and heat?

After waiting a full 3 months for the briquettes to completely dry out,
I get to see just how well this idea works. And use the information to make  improvements to the process.

This is a JOURNEY.

Chalco stamp & die Co. Engravers. A visit turns into a demonstration.

Eleven years after I first met the master engraver, I revisit Ian Houghton in the little town of Irchester, Wellingborough. #engraving #engravers

Chalco Stamp & Die are 'the' perfect engraving business in my opinion. That mix of old techniques, with years of experience, and with a little help from 'modern' machinery (mostly pre 1960s), makes this a brilliantly skilled team. With not one but two Ians, it can get a little confusing.

I made this video because these old techniques in a small workshop that is still creating stamps is a piece of historical interest. In these times of CAD design, CNC and 3d printing, the Artwork that was once down to a designer /artists skills are now watered down into templates and so refined that the end user can see exactly what they're getting. And so the surprise, the excitement of seeing a new stamp, well, it's not what is was like.

You can watch the nearly ONE hour video here and now

My visit turned into a demonstration and a tutorial.. A fabulous day. And a new design for a stamp is with the Ians and well on its way.

I hope you like this as much as it really interests me.

Thank you

Fitting Legs & Wedges - Rub joints - Briquettes - Over 2 days. Episode 3.

Just Two days. Briquettes need organisin first. Then I get to fit Wedges to the leg tenon. Do you do this too? Or is it just me?

The routine of going into the workshop and getting on with the small tasks like numbering the briquettes. So important to me so that when I burn them I can get to know the burn and make changes to improve the burn time. I want the Briquettes to have as long and hot burn time to get the most from my effort in making them. Including handling which is at the most a minute or two each)

Wednesday evenings are a time for learning and growing. A useful session with rub jointing, gluing up and setting into clamps.

And lastly onto the fitting of the legs into the bench seats. and making sure things line up and the wedges work as intended. Do you shape the edges of your Wedges?

Anyhow here's the link to my video

Excellent Preston Oil can - Small Brass bottom no1804 - Unboxing. #tools #oilcan

I very nearly opened this parcel the other day on a YouTube LIVE. But then stopped myself because the quality of the Internet reception was really not up to the task.

So here we are.. A piece that is well over 100 years old and still usable today.

Wonderful to find it in the 1909 Preston catalogue.

You can watch the unboxing and my excitement here

Anyhow 6pm Saturday night if all goes well.

Recycle a £10,000 bottle of Champagne box saving every piece. ♻️

A little while ago I was given this Champagne box, that was not the best design, and that had caused it to break at the joints. The Beech wood was in good condition but the top was too thick, too powerful in its movement, that it had split the corner joints and expanded.
