One of the reasons why these planes are so well respected is the wonderful mechanism designed by Karl Emmerich in 1952, the sole of Lignum Vitae, and the adjustable mouth.. this is a perfect combination.
The problem is that if these planes get too damp, they move around and the hidden piece of wood beneath the sole is... Beech. The worst wood for movement. So before you try to fix your plane it might pay to watch how I did mine. There are a couple of things to watch out for. The first is the threaded insert getting rusty and 'blowing' the Beech sub base apart.
In this video I'm seeking out the problems and sorting them in the best possible way.

Sometimes called 'horned' planes. These wooden smoother planes are amazing and perfect for cabinet making.
