Alexander Mathieson Brace

This is an Alexander Mathieson Beech and Rosewood plated framed brace. I've had it so long that it's just become a piece on a shelf. But can we still use these wonderful artifacts?

Maybe it's time to let it go? Let's go through it and remind ourselves just how good these braces were.. Are.

Accu-Burr.. review?

One of my evening class students has bought this tool to Sharpen his scrapers.
And I get to try it out and give my verdict.

To buy one or not?

At £45 the Accu-Burr is not a cheap tool. It's not complicated, in fact it's one of the most simple tools made. Made from Carbide it is very hard, with just three simple bevels cut into the middle.
Well, with me doing a series of videos about how to Sharpen a scraper. I started with how my old boss Barry Smith taught me to Sharpen with a screwdriver and chisel. You can watch that video Here

Now it's the turn of the latest tool to market. Matt is a keen woodworker and will open his wallet when he sees something quite 'pretty'.

How did it fair?

Engraved Brass bullnose plane

Sometimes you find a piece that's a little bit special. I bought this bullnose plane a number of years ago. It was that old school simple yet confident engraving that clinched it for me. Then the JH was so ornate. Love it.

Well, we have to let things go at some point. And the Brass and Mahogany plane is currently on Ebay awaiting its future new home, new custodian.

Take a look, bid if it pleases you.

I've made a video of it and you can watch it here https://youtu.be/4ael2bswftI

Have a wonderful day.

Briquettes that burn 2 x longer..

Well, I'm moving my process forward. And at the time of writing this I've had another idea to use another waste product to heat my home. You'll have to wait a little while for that one.

I've been using old coffee grinds for a good while now, and the results are looking really good.

Still in the trails period. This 'batch 1' was made just at the end of 2022 and are fully dried out and ready to use. And blimey.. Excellent results

Coffee Briquettes burn better than Wood?

I've been making briquettes for nearly 10 years now. And with the passage of time the costs of heating a home has risen massively.

I'd seen that the Coffee waste was getting used in gardens. But as a fuel..

. In my latest video I'm burning a Coffee/Wood dust mix.

Just how well does it burn? And compared to a piece of Wood?

Let me know what you think.
