Fire Starters & paper logs - Do they work?? Made & burned on the same day #firestarters #firestarter

Following on from my last video, where I made the Fire Starters from my waste wood shavings and toilet roll tubes. And then the plane shavings into rolled up newspaper 'logs'.

I wanted to share the rest of the process. Do they light well and do the 'logs' last long.

So here's the link to my video

And this is how they came about..

The guys on my hand tools evening classes make a lot of shavings. These shaving need to go, so I looked into trying these out a years ago.

Using old spoiled newspaper and carefully wrapping the thin slithers of wood is one way of safely burning the waste shavings.  From here I want to reuse the inner cardboard tube from toilet paper. Used as a mould to make Fire starters, they're great to start the fire off.

Plane shavings into Fire starters, and paper logs - No equipment needed, just your hands.

Hello again.

The guys on my hand tools evening classes make a lot of shavings from their hand planes. These shavings go into a bag and every now and then, fill a bag and need to go. So I looked into trying these out a few years ago, where I wrapped the shavings, very tightly into a sheet of newspaper. It worked pretty well.

They were pretty good.

Using old spoiled newspaper and carefully wrapping the thin slithers of wood is one way of safely burning the waste shavings.  From there I wanted to reuse the inner cardboard tube from toilet paper. Used as a mould to make Firestarters, they're great way to start the fire off.

There will be a follow up video showing how I burn them and how good they are.

A mindful walk in the snow [video no2]

Walking one of the footpaths in-between nearby villages. This was last January (2021) and the chill dropped to leave us a wonderful white coating to every surface.

It was quite peaceful, not a sound except a few children playing in the distance and the birdsong as they try to find food. A great little place.

The second video to go on my channel, made as a memory for me. for you to enjoy too. Here's the link https://youtu.be/9hlhNBb2tD0

Update Feb 2nd 22

Getting the workshop tidy to start a new project. But, two bags of saw dust.. And I'm going to make at least another one or two.. 😕
My fire safety policy means at least one has to go, rather than the fire risk of three bags of saw dust.
Solution.. I've got to make more blocks. So an updated video of me making Briquettes from waste was perfect timing. That with editing while I'm running the family around, makes perfect sense. So it'll be up in a day or two..but, if you cant wait here's the first video I did on making briquettes out of my waste sawdust.
